Nonprofit fundraiser features 26 authors from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties

February 27, 2018. Nipomo, CA. The Monarch Club at 1645 Trilogy Parkway in Nipomo is the site for a Local Author Fair on Sunday, March 18th, from 11 AM to 3 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

A total of 26 local authors will be selling and autographing their books at the event. Authors hailing from Lompoc to Nipomo to Paso Robles will be participating, and represent a wide range of genres: Mystery/Thriller, Memoir, History, Military, Children's, Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Poetry, and Short Story Collections. Authors will be doing readings, and there will be a raffle for free books. It's a unique opportunity to meet the talented authors in this part of the Central Coast.

The fair is sponsored by four nonprofit organizations: Friends of the Nipomo Library, The Coastal Dunes Branch of the California Writers Club (Coastal Dunes CWC), Monarch Radio 107.9 FM, and the Chapter Two Book Club at Trilogy-Monarch Dunes. Each sponsor will have a table at the event to distribute information about their respective organizations.

The idea for the fair began a few years ago, when Coastal Dunes CWC Founder and Trilogy resident Catherine Kitcho began discussions with the Friends of the Nipomo Library and the President of the Chapter Two Book Club at Trilogy, Judy Richards, to find a way to showcase the impressive writing talent in the surrounding area. "We had several challenges," says Ms. Kitcho. "We needed to make it affordable for authors, we needed a large venue, and we wanted to provide some benefit for our local library. The resulting plan came together: host a Local Author Fair as a fundraising event for the Friends of the Nipomo Library. The Monarch Club graciously offered to provide the venue for a good cause in the local community."

Participating authors paid a table fee to the Friends of the Nipomo Library for the opportunity to sell their books at the fair. The four nonprofit sponsors are providing volunteers to help staff the event. Monarch Radio has recorded pre-event radio interviews with the authors; those interviews are broadcast during their programs on 107.9 FM, 6 to 10 AM daily, and streamed online at their website, It's a win-win for all four nonprofit organizations, the authors, and the general public who can attend the event for free. Book tote bags will be given to the first 100 attendees, and light refreshments will be served. Come and join the fun!

Art in Motion “Under the Oaks”

Raising awareness and support for art education

    Dear Community and Business Leader,

The Lucia Mar Foundation for Innovation (LMFI), in partnership with Lucia Mar Unified School District (LMUSD), is proud to sponsor our 7th Annual ART IN MOTION benefitting art education in our public schools. During the month of March, student art from LMUSD K-12 classrooms will be on display throughout the Five Cities businesses.  Each classroom that participates is paired up with a business near their school in hopes of increasing the awareness of the importance of art in education and to raise funds to support art in our schools.  Our goal this year is to increase the number of business and community sponsors to raise more money to give back to our schools.

Art education is important not only to a well-rounded education but is increasingly becoming critical in preparing students for college and/or careers. The arts help develop creativity, real world thinking, and math and symmetry skills, to name just a few benefits. With our initiative we are working with schools to encourage and foster instruction that develops skills in these areas and enriches the student experience.

    Here’s how you can help:

    • ·         Be a Sponsor for our event
    • A donation of $100, $250 or $500 will provide you with the opportunity to showcase a classroom’s art in your business attracting customers, recognition and to show support for art in education.
    • ·         Become a friend of ART in MOTION with a contribution of $25 or greater to help with additional art supplies, art instruction and
    • ·         Volunteer to have student art work displayed in your business

LMFI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting innovation and excellence in the Lucia Mar schools. We identify and support promising and innovative programs that help students master the skills they need to succeed. We know that you may get many worthy requests for donations and sponsorships, and we are grateful for your time and consideration. Visit us at and please feel free to contact me with any questions. I will follow up with you in a few weeks, and again, thank you for your support.
